ALAS Launches Fundraiser for 2015
On the heels of a successful 2014, which saw 14 students sponsored, ALAS is kicking off fundraising efforts to make 2015 its best year yet.
ALAS has kicked off fundraising efforts for our scholarship offerings in 2015. And we think there has never been a more important time for our cause.
In the past year, issues such as immigration, border security and American relations with our neighbors to the south have received more attention than usual. With more than 50 million Spanish speakers in the United States, and Latinos making up a quarter of all children in US public schools, it is clear that our country is facing great cultural changes.
Since our inception five years ago, ALAS has maintained that the best way to prepare for the changing demographic realities in our country is to embrace education and deeper cultural ties. When Americans learn Spanish and spend time in Latin America, they become better suited to understand the people and cutoms that are more closely ingrained in our way of life with every passing day.
Giving support to ambitious young minds with a desire to learn, travel and work with foreign cultures helps create leaders, while strengthening ties between the US, Mexico and other nations in Central and South America.
We believe our efforts pay off in ways much more profound than normal charities. Our students have taken their ALAS experiences and “paid it forward” by donating money and goods, dedicating their time to philanthropic organizations and putting their experiences into action as young professionals.
Last year we had our best year ever, helping 14 students. Next year we would like to increase and expand our operations. But we need your help.
Check out our fundraiser page below and be sure to watch the video. Let us know if you have any questions or would like to help us in any way.
ALAS can’t exist without your efforts. Thanks to everyone who has helped in the past and continues to support the good work we are doing.
